Tarangire is famous for two things: massive herds of elephants and massive trees.
The Baobabs or “upside down trees” can be thousands of years old. Staying in a lodge built around them without damaging them feels like sleeping in a living cathedral. Elephants love these trees too. It is common to wake up and look down from your deck to see a family of elephants scratching their backs against the trunk of the very tree you are sleeping in.
3. A Night Under the Stars
Many of these treehouses are open fronted or have “star beds” that can be rolled out onto the deck.
With zero light pollution, the Milky Way looks bright enough to touch. The acoustics in the trees are incredible. You will hear the distant roar of lions and the chirping of tree frogs as you drift off to sleep safely tucked away in your high altitude nest.
