Egypt is Famous for Its Sand. But Its Real Secret Treasure is Its Water.
The Red Sea is home to some of the finest coral reefs on the planet. Whether you are a certified diver or just someone who wants to float with a mask on, the underwater world here rivals the Maldives or the Great Barrier Reef.
At The Expat Tours, we design our itineraries to end here. After a week of early wake up calls to see temples, a few days at a Red Sea Resort in Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh is not just a luxury. It is a necessity.
1. The “Aquarium” Effect
You do not need a boat to see the magic.
The House Reef is a key feature. Many of the resorts we select have their own house reefs. This means you can walk off the jetty or the beach and be instantly surrounded by Lionfish, Parrotfish, and vibrant soft corals.
Accessibility is perfect for families or beginners. You can snorkel for an hour then walk back to your sun lounger for a drink.
2. Hurghada vs Sharm El Sheikh
Which one should you choose?
Sharm El Sheikh is located on the Sinai Peninsula. It is generally more upscale with dramatic desert meets sea landscapes and world famous dive sites like Ras Mohammed National Park.
Hurghada is located on the mainland. It is more laid back, often better value, and offers easier day trips to Luxor if you missed it earlier in your trip.
3. World Class Diving
For divers, this is a pilgrimage site.
The Wrecks are legendary. The SS Thistlegorm, a WWII British supply ship sunk by German bombers, is widely considered one of the top wreck dives in the world. Seeing motorbikes and trucks still parked in the hold underwater is haunting and incredible.
The Visibility is unmatched. The water is warm and crystal clear year round offering visibility of up to 30 plus meters.
4. Desert Adventures
If you get bored of the water which is unlikely, the desert is right behind you.
The Contrast is striking. In the late afternoon, you can swap your fins for a quad bike. Driving into the Bedouin territories of the Eastern Desert for a traditional tea at sunset offers a stunning contrast to the blue of the day.
The Perfect Decompression
Wash off the desert dust in the world’s clearest water.

Book your Red Sea stay with us, and we can arrange a private boat charter to Giftun Island or Mahmya.
