Greece is part of the Schengen Area. While many travelers enjoy visa-free entry, 2026 introduces important digital updates for all visitors.
Official Resources
Only use official government websites to verify your entry status and avoid unofficial service fees:
Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs: mfa.gr/en/visas
EU Official ETIAS Info: travel-europe.europa.eu/etias
New Digital Entry Rules
The EES (Entry/Exit System): Manual passport stamps have been replaced by a digital system. Upon arrival at Greek airports, you may be asked to provide biometric data (facial scan and fingerprints).
ETIAS (Required for Visa-Exempt Travelers): If you hold a passport from the USA, UK, Canada, or Australia, you will soon require an ETIAS authorization before you fly. This is a quick online application valid for 3 years.
Schengen Visa: If your nationality is not on the visa-exempt list, you must apply for a Schengen Visa (Type C) via your local Greek Consulate at least 20 days before departure.
Disclaimer: > The Expat Tours is a travel experience provider and does not act as a visa agency. It is the traveler’s sole responsibility to ensure they meet all entry requirements, including EES and ETIAS protocols. Please verify all details on the official Greek MFA website before booking.
Greece is a destination of sun, sea, and ancient ruins. To ensure you can relax and enjoy the islands, we highly recommend a robust protection plan.
Through Our Trusted Partners: For your convenience, we offer optional, comprehensive travel insurance through our vetted partners. These plans are specifically designed to cover Greek itineraries, including ferry transfers and island excursions.
Your Own Provider: You are welcome to use any trusted provider (Allianz, World Nomads, etc.). If you are applying for a Schengen Visa, your policy must have a minimum medical coverage of €30,000.
