France is part of the Schengen Area, meaning entry rules are standardized for most European travel. However, 2026 brings new digital requirements that all travelers must be aware of.
Official Resources
Always verify your specific requirements on the official government portals to avoid unofficial “service fee” sites:
France-Visas (Official Portal): france-visas.gouv.fr
EU Official ETIAS Info: travel-europe.europa.eu/etias
New Entry Rules
The EES (Entry/Exit System): As of 2026, the EU has replaced manual passport stamping with a digital system. Upon arrival, you may need to provide biometric data (facial scan and fingerprints) at a kiosk.
ETIAS (Launch Late 2026): If you are from a visa-exempt country (USA, UK, Canada, Australia), you will soon require an ETIAS travel authorization before flying. It costs approximately €20 and is valid for 3 years.
Schengen Visa: If your nationality is not visa-exempt, you must apply for a Schengen Visa (Type C) via the official France-Visas portal at least 15–20 days before travel.
Disclaimer: > The Expat Tours is a tour provider and cannot act as a visa agent. Entry requirements, including EES and ETIAS protocols, are subject to change. It is the traveler’s responsibility to ensure their passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond their departure date and that they hold the correct authorization. Check France-Visas before booking.
France is a dream destination, but from the bustling streets of Paris to the hiking trails of Provence, having the right coverage is essential for a stress-free trip.
Through Our Trusted Partners: For your convenience, we offer optional travel insurance through our vetted partners. These policies are designed to meet French entry standards and cover the specific activities included in our tours.
Your Own Provider: You are welcome to use any trusted service. If you are applying for a Schengen Visa, your policy must have a minimum medical coverage of €30,000.
